History

Little information regarding the department's history is available in the public domain. However, Crown Point, Indiana, is infamous for when the famous gangster John Dillinger escaped from the former Lake County Jail, in Downtown Crown Point, Indiana.

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division has ten basic functions: Enforce municipal ordinances and state code, Patrol the city to ensure the safety of its citizens, and initiate cases regarding offenses committed against a person and/or his or her property.

The Patrol Division currently consists of 27 officers and 1 commander.

Motorcycle Division

The Motorcycle Division was initially started by Chief Michael Valsi in 1994.
